About Me

Born in Mackenzie, Linden, Guyana on February 26th 1988 to my mother Vesta Barker and My Father, the third among the four boys, I attended the Wismar Hill Elementary school in Guyana and then made my way to High School by passing the Caribbean Student Secondary Educational Examination and was placed at Mackenzie High School. I enjoyed the elementary education as well as I was always pushed by my teachers and friends to excel to my fullest potentials. In the space of six years I had attended many spelling competitions and performed on many occasions of standup comedy and poetry for our national festivity- Mashramani including my all time favorite standup comedy for years 1999 and 2000 winning as finalist for Guyana. Secondary School opened up the field of learning where not only did I try to succeed but also found my niche in life and that was science In an effort to fulfill my dreams of becoming a doctor someday I was placed in Form five Science at Mackenzie High School. Unfortunately I migrated to the United States on February 26th 2004 where I completed my high school career and graduated .I now attend Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, Maryland studying for a Bachelor’s of Science in Biochemistry and a minor in Pre medicine and International Relations.

My Achievements

In May 2005 I was inducted into the National Society of High School Scholars, a society whose goal is to recognize the best and brightest in the nation. This nomination came with a certification of Membership and achievement along with a Press Release. Last July I attended our first membership meeting in the United States Cannon Building in Washington District Of Columbia. The reception was held in the Caucus room. I received a medal of honor as a member along with our 101 member society. It was significant for me because it represented achievement in my school along with another students.

After being inducted into the National Society of High School Scholars, I was contacted by whose who among High School Students honor society for membership also. This institution wants to promote college awareness through honoring its best students.

Coming to the United States, I attended High Point High School in Beltsville, Maryland where I finished my junior and senior year taking core subjects for graduation. During the first and second quarters I was nominated Teacher choice Award for Local State National Government and English. These recipients were awarded with a certificate and breakfast one school morning. These awards encouraged me to do better and have a smooth transition into college.

Upon Graduating I sought a Job that will contribute to major in college of Biochemistry with a concentration of Pre Medicine. I apply to an Erickson Senior Retirement Community, Riderwood Village and was accepted as a College Intern during the summer of 2005. My title was programming assistant to the resident activities department. I had a great time working with the elderly people as I was familiar with the stages of aging and along with the rest of interns we discovered our first Full time job in a professional setting. I was able to help the residents keep socially fit with their lives and created an impact that they would never forget as I was the youngest intern.
